During the last 10 years our world has turned into a travesty at accelerating pace. Across all major human sectors (politics, society, media, web) we have been witnessing a reality unfolding that was beyond our imagination. Maybe some of you did see it coming, but it was seen as an absurd, radical or even nihilistic view of the world. At best, it was perceived as satire. Ironically, within our current media landscape, satire has become the most relialble source of truth.
"Art as Survival in the Electric Age."
Marshall McLuhan understood the tremendous societal influence that the artist can have when they put action behind their vision. One entire talk, delivered at Columbia University in 1973 is devoted to demonstrating how in the instantaneous post-electric world the artist alone can provide the insight and knowledge to survive while living at the speed of the computerized world.
"The job of the artist is to upset all the senses, and thus to provide new vision and new powers of adjusting to and relating to new situations"
Let's get together with the brightest minds, artists and scientists and find out once and for all what's really going on here! We need to know what we are dealing with in order to fix it.
